Would you like to meet the cook?

35 year old female.  Likes to eat, so, likes to cook.  Has a handsome almost 6 year old apprentice, who loves when it's time to bake.  Lives in Ottawa, always has.  Has taught for 12 years. Also has a passion for fitness, latest obsession, Barre classes.

I've always been interested in cooking and baking. My mom is a great cook so I naturally became her nemesis. I remember making her eggs on Sunday morning and getting very upset if I broke the yoke in those over easy eggs. I would say I'm something of an independent force with a touch of it-needs-to-be-perfect, so from there, with lots of trial and error, I learned to navigate the kitchen with ease.

I think if you asked any of my friends about my talents, they would without a doubt make reference to my baking. For me, after a long day, I love to unwind in the kitchen. Due to the fact that I have quite the sweet tooth, I end up baking so that I can indulge! Also, in order to cheer up the staff room, or let someone know you are thinking of them during a rough time why not bake up something fresh?

Life is busy.  For all of us.  But I believe coming home and cooking something fresh and healthy is important.  I guess I can say (toot toot), that I can pretty easily whip up meals without a recipe, with whatever I have in the fridge, and with a few exceptions, I'm pretty proud of what I serve up.  I've experimented with quinoa, kale, and all kinds of other super foods.  I'd like to say I'm not picky, but let's face it, I am.  No mushrooms around here!  (Or turnip, too much spice, creamy sauces, cooked carrots, just to name a few)  Have I mentioned I love chocolate though?

Don't get me wrong, I do find great inspiration from posts on Facebook, great websites like http://www.skinnytaste.com/ and http://allrecipes.com/.     I've even got a great collection of cookbooks that I peruse (when I find the time). You might have also notice a nice glass of white wine (that's Pino Grigio in case you were curious).  But really, I'm more of a bright, bold red wine drinker.  Merlot?  No way!

Am I perfect?  Well, it depends who you ask.... but I will let you take a look at what we eat for dinner almost once a week and let you decide:

Important note:  WHOLE WHEAT chicken fingers

On that note, Happy Easter to all of you!  I hope you were able to enjoy a nice slice of C.A.K.E!!
I forgot to mention hours spent on Pinterest.  Thanks for this idea!
